Abstract

Anxiety is a natural human emotion that everyone experiences in certain situations in the life. Therapists have found that a lack of meaning, identity, and purpose in life induces the groundwork for numerous anxieties and psychological and behavioral problems. Therefore, while addressing clinical symptoms and behavioral disorders, they also pay attention to identity, meaning, and life purpose. These matters link psychotherapy with religion and spirituality, revealing the impact of religious and spiritual issues on mental health. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a common therapy whose main goal is to enhance psychological flexibility. Our objective in this research is to reduce anxiety symptoms based on religious foundations using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. This study employed a descriptive-analytical method to collect, describe, classify, and analyze the conceptual model of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy from Islamic sources, and used a survey method to examine the validity of the extracted concepts from the perspective of experts. All concepts extracted in this study were confirmed based on the content validity index; however, two concepts—'forbearance' for the acceptance component and 'repentance' for the cognitive dissonance component—which rejected based on the content validity ratio. These are mentioned in the theoretical protocol ACT model based on Islamic concepts. The educational-psychological package based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with an Islamic approach strives to contribute  to the reduction of clients' anxiety symptoms. It aims to do so by enriching the therapy, increasing its effectiveness, considering the social context of the Islamic community, and assisting dedicated Muslim therapists.
