Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide a psychological explanation of happiness-oriented and misery-oriented tendencies in different types of joy and their management strategies from the perspective of the Quran and Hadith. Joy serves as a basic motivator for fulfilling fundamental human needs in life, acting as a main factor for growth, success, and a tool for enhancing human capabilities. However, this same emotion can be harmful, leading to an individual’s downfall, divine wrath, and eternal misery. Research indicates that uncontrolled joy can result in emotional, behavioral, and physical problems, underscoring the need to distinguish between happiness-oriented and misery-oriented types of joy. This study, in terms of its objectives, falls under theoretical and applied research and under qualitative research in terms of data collection and analysis, aiming to address research questions by drawing on the Quran and Hadith. Data were collected using a library-based method, gathering necessary information from Islamic texts, books, and Quranic and Hadith software. Islamic sources offer various strategies, including spiritual strategies (such as faith and righteous deeds, patience in hardships, and strengthening self-regulation abilities), cognitive strategies (such as recognizing factors of negative and positive joy, belief and trust in divine will, awareness of material and spiritual possessions, and rational perception of aspirations), and behavioral strategies (such as resolving others’ problems, bringing joy to others, and seeking divine assistance).
