Abstract

This study aimed to develop a coping intervention method based on the Islamic model of sexual behavior regulation to enhance sexual self-restraint among young adults awaiting marriage (aged 21–35). To this end, the objectives, techniques, and tasks of the intervention method were designed, its content validity was assessed, and its effectiveness in increasing sexual self-restraint was evaluated. Expert opinions were utilized to examine the content validity of the intervention method. To assess the effectiveness of the therapeutic protocol, a single-case experimental design with a multiple baseline and a sample of three young adults was employed. The techniques and tasks of the coping intervention based on the Islamic model of sexual behavior regulation, were developed in five steps. The content validity of the protocol was confirmed for all strategies and some operational objectives, techniques, and tasks based on the evaluations of six experts. In the single-case experimental design, findings showed that all three participants exhibited an increasing and improving trend in the sexual self-restraint scale (79%) following the intervention administration. Visual analysis revealed 100% non-overlapping data for the second participant and 83% for the first participant on the sexual self-restraint scale, indicating the intervention's effectiveness. A significant portion of the changes observed, persisted during the one-month and three-month follow-up periods. The results suggest that the therapeutic protocol based on the Islamic model of sexual behavior regulation is an effective coping intervention method for enhancing sexual self-restraint.
