A Conceptual Model of Resilience in the Face of Sufferings Based on Islamic Sources: Qualitative Content Analysis

Abstract

This study aims to present a conceptual model of resilience in the face of sufferings based on Islamic sources (the Quran and Hadiths). To discover the concepts related to resilience in Islamic sources, we used the method of linguistic semantics; the method of qualitative content analysis in the section of formulating the conceptual model of resilience; and finally, the survey descriptive method for assessing content validity. By gathering the vocabulary and concepts of the domain of resilience in the Islamic sources, the descriptive-explanatory sentences related to the subject matter were searched and selected. After screening in the stage of selecting the authentic traditional books and no conceptual relation included 978 data (verses and traditions), which were analyzed in three stages of focused open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The result of analyzing data in the stage of coding was identifying 875 initial open codes, 10 subcomponents, 6 components, and 2 dimensions.
The findings of the study show that the conceptual structure of the religious resilience based on Islamic sources are founded on five core components including self-control, constancy, satisfaction, calmness and resistance, which are placed in endopsychic and exopsychic dimensions. the content validity of these components were calculated and confirmed by 8 experts based on content validity index (CVI) and content validity ration (CVR).
