The present study aimed to develop a model of religious commitment based on early maladaptive schemas with the mediating role of mental image of God. This was a fundamental research with a correlational research design based on structural equation model relationships. The statistical population included all male and female students of Islamic Azad University, Yadegar Imam Khomeini Branch, in the second half of the academic year 1402-1403 SH, with a sample of 340 people selected using multi-stage cluster random sampling method; and data were collected using the religious commitment questionnaires of Worthington et al. (2003), Young's early maladaptive schemas short form (1998) and Omidi et al.'s image of God (2010). Data analysis was performed through the method of structural equation modeling, using SPSS-27 and AMOS-29 statistical software. The results showed that the research hypothesis was confirmed and it can be stated that the structural model of religious commitment based on early maladaptive schemas mediated by the image of God fits the empirical data. The results showed that various psychological and cognitive factors, especially early maladaptive schemas, play a significant role in formation and reinforcement of religious commitment. The image of God as a mediating variable significantly reinforced the relationship between these factors. These findings emphasize that religious commitment is a multidimensional phenomenon rooted in cognitive structures.
