The current research was conducted with the aim of developing a psychological model of religious education based on Islamic sources. Three scientific methods were used including linguistic semantics, qualitative content analysis and descriptive contextualization method. First, the basic concepts of religious education were identified through semantic analysis and evaluated with the content validity indices (CVI), and the content validity ratio (CVR) was evaluated by five experts. Then the relevant documents were collected and selected for the final analysis after screening and evaluating the content. The data were analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method and in three stages of open, axial and selective coding, and 1164 open codes, 61 axial codes and 9 selective categories were identified. Components with sufficient scores were kept and invalid items were removed. The findings showed that the psychological model of religious education is based on "intrapersonal" and "extra-personal" factors, which prepare the ground for the components of "personal evolution of faith", "comprehensive monotheistic perception", "transcendence-oriented interpersonal interactions", "meaningful and purposeful worldly orientation" and "meaningful and purposeful perception of the hereafter" through "educational psychological strategies"; and the ultimate outcome of this education is "eternal happiness". This coherent and multidimensional model, relying on revelation and psychological teachings, cultivates the cognitive, emotional, behavioral and social dimensions of the learner and has the ability to be transformed into measurement tools and educational protocols.
