This study aimed at the relationship of purposefulness based on Islamic sources and personality traits with and their relationship with life satisfaction in two groups of seminary and university students. The research method is descriptive and correlational and the statistical population was selected from 2520 people by available sampling. The findings showed that, in both groups of students, the personality trait of neuroticism had a negative and significant relationship with life satisfaction, and the traits of extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness had a positive and significant relationship with life satisfaction. In both groups, there was no significant relationship between the two variables of life satisfaction and openness. Another finding showed that, in both groups, the variable of life satisfaction had a positive and significant correlation with the variable of purposefulness based on Islamic sources. Furthermore, the total score of the goal had a negative and significant relationship with neuroticism in both groups. In the group university students, the target variable has a positive and significant relationship with other traits of personality except openness, and in the group seminary students, the target variable has a negative and significant relationship with the openness. But the relationship of this variable with other personality traits is positive and significant. Purposefulness is one of the variables affecting life satisfaction. Furthermore, personality traits are another variable that affects many aspects of human life such as satisfaction and purposefulness.
